Jesus Christ Loves Us        By Diane Mathews

It is my hope and prayer that through my sharing of this testimony others may come to know Jesus more fully in their life. Our God is so good! He is patient, kind, loving, merciful and forgiving; for He has brought me from a life of drugs, prostitution, call girl and madam, armed robbery, flim-flam. etc., to a new life in Jesus Christ.

I was raise in an upper middle class family from New York, with the motto, "Do as I say, not as I do." As far back as I can remember, I never felt any love from my mother. My first attempt to run away from home came when I was about five years old. This was also my first association with the police, that was to continue for many more years to come. Since my family life wasn't a happy and loving one, I didn't want to return home. We had everything we needed financially, but we lacked in the relationships together. There was no love in our home. I praise God that even under these circumstances, He has given me the ability to love today.

My parents were constantly arguing, and no matter what good I did at school, I never received any credit what so ever. My father, who was an undercover alcoholic, was taken seriously ill with cancer one day, and even though he survived his illness, it didn't bring us any closer as a family Periodically, I would try to run away from home. One night when I came home, my mother was reading a newspaper article about teenage use of drugs. She began to accuse me of doing the same things; of using drugs I had never heard of before that day. She continued to accuse me of every other  sin she could think of and telling me I was no good.

Since I was a Protestant and dating a Catholic boy, my mother tried to keep us from seeing each other. When He joined the Army, my life began to go from bad to worse. I was sent to live with my aunt. One weekend, I was kidnapped by some boys and raped. Somehow, my mother had me committed to a home for wayward girls. for three years. Now, more than ever, I was angry, bitter and full of hate. I pray that the Lord will give me the grace to forgive her. For me now, this was the beginning of the road to hell, that I would be traveling for many years to come.

It was at this time that I learned how to make money sinfully and illegally. I started hustling out in the streets of Harlem, and started shooting heroin; soon adding cocaine. Within a short time, my habit of drugs was amounting to several hundred dollars a day. I spent about 9 1/2 years in prison for drugs, prostitution and illegal crime. Most of the girls I knew are either in prison or dead. I believe that there is no way that I should be alive today if it wasn't for Jesus Christ! If Jesus can bring me from all this, just think of what He can do for you.

I have had the opportunity to share my testimony with others for the first time. Needless to say, I was very nervous. Later a man mentioned that hearing my testimony had brought tears to his eyes. What a beautiful feeling I had. I had never felt happier in my life than this moment of sharing how Jesus had changed me. There are many areas of my life that still need changing, and sometimes it isn't easy. But with Jesus, there is hope for He has given me a New Life!

I would like to share this prayer with you that has given me strength.

"Thank you Lord for this day. Help me to live it your way. Show me what You want me to do. Then give me the strength to follow it through."
