WALKING AND REJOICING IN GOD'S WISDOM
By Sally Carey

Due to the recent economy, my position at work was eliminated, and I was unexpectedly laid off, after being there for several years. My first reaction was anger, resentment, bitterness and a "why me God" attitude. After the shock, I turned to my Bible, searching the Scriptures for an answer. I found it in James:

"Consider yourself fortunate when all kinds of trials come your way, for when you know your faith succeeds in facing trials, you will have ability to endure. Make sure endurance carries you all the way without failing so you may be perfect and complete and lack nothing; but if you lack the wisdom, pray to God who will give generously and graciously to all. When you pray, believe and have no doubt! (James 1:2-7)

The Gospel of John (10:27) tells us Jesus id the Good Shepherd and we are His sheep and as we listen to Him, He says, "Come Follow Me". For He has given us wisdom and understanding through the Holy Spirit which He poured out upon us. If we don't have this wisdom, we should ask for it, for He gives generously. "Entrust your works to the Lord and your plans will succeed." (Proverbs 16:3) Ephesians 5:17 and Acts 22:14  also tell us to "discern the will of the Lord" and that "God designated you to know His will."

Happy are those who rejoice in the Lord, for He is with us and will have victory by His power which is in His Word. He will delight in us and His love will give us new life. Therefore, we should submit to God, accept His word, pay attention to Him, and practice it; always praising Him, singing glad songs and thanking Him. For Jesus' words are "If you live in Me, and My words stay part of you, you may ask what you will; it will be done for you." (John 15:7) The Lord always does what He says. For He provided all my needs; forgiven my sins; removed my anger, bitterness and resentment of my past employer; given me Christian fellowship at the People Of Joy Prayer Meetings. A place to worship Him in daily Mass; a time to mediate in His word to get to know Him better; peace and joy; health instead of sickness; strength instead of weakness; joy instead of sadness; peace instead of unrest; and I know He is teaching me patience as I wait for the job He has for me.

This little song I sing many times.

Something beautiful; something good,
In my confusion ,He understood
All I had to offer Him was brokenness and strife
But He made something beautiful of my life.
