What's the most important thing in your life? As you ponder over this question, try to concentrate on your own lifetime's experience. Looking back over the years, many might say that "as long as I have my health, nothing else is important, for after all, if you have your health, you have everything!" In some sense, that true. A healthy person is capable of a good job with enough money to take care of a family and be secure with friends and relatives. But what happens if your health begins to fail you? Others might say, "that the only thing that is important in life is to be financially secure." With a good job paying good wages, the future will look pretty secure. With enough money salted away in a savings account or IRA retirement account for those "golden years", those with financial security can look forward to a brighter future. But what happens if you are suddenly drained of your life's savings due to a long-term illness, lack of work and high inflation?
WHAT IS IMPORTANT TO YOU?
While the two
situations seem hard to grasp for some people, it is a reality for
many others. Recently, I received two letters from people in
these same situations I have stated above. However,
When Jesus was approached with the question as to which of the commandments of the law was the greatest, He replied, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength!" (Mark 12:30) This was the law God gave to Moses on Mount Sinai. (Exodus 20) Later, Moses would encourage the people to remember this great commandment of God by telling the people "to drill them into their children. Speak of them at home and abroad, whether you are busy or at rest. Bind them at your wrist as a sign, and let them be a pendant on your forehead. Write them on the doorpost of your house and on your gates." (Deuteronomy 6:4-9) In short, Moses was saying God was more important than anything else in the world. More important than life itself. Without God, life has no meaning and no future. Those who don't know God are trying very hard to find life in other forms of religion. Some study the "Ancient Religions", Transcendental Meditation", "Reincarnation". "New Wave Religion," "Channeling", and many more.
It's really not hard to find God if we look to Jesus! In Jesus, we see the fulfillment of the Law and the Prophets! In Jesus, we see the promised Messiah; the Anointed One of God! In Jesus, we see the future; life everlasting! In Jesus, we see God!
Is God first in all that you do and say? Do people around you know that God is first in all things in your life? By your expressions and commitments are other people aware of the importance of God in your life? As members of the Charismatic Renewal, we have an obligation to lead others to know God through the Holy Spirit, in the Name of Jesus Christ! It should be our mission in our prayer groups to bring other people into the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, so that they too may know God in a more personal way. Jesus said, "If you really know Me, you would know My Father also." )John 14:7)
One of the ways that God has given us to let others know about the importance of God in our lives, is through the Charismatic Renewal. When we make a commitment to attend the weekly prayer meetings, we are saying to everyone around us "these meetings are important to me! It is where I praise God openly with all my heart, with all my soul, with all my mind, and with all my strength! It is where I share with others all the gifts that God has given to me!"
WILL YOU COME AND SHARE GOD WITH ME?
